I realized pretty early on that I wanted to be an artist. I drew portraits of my girlfriends in school notebooks, they were
funny but similar to their prototypes. Then I got an art education by specialty - interior painter. I was engaged in
monumental painting, made murals on walls and decorated buildings. In this period I developed a love for large forms.
One day I had an idea to create a series of works based on oriental mythology, I saw it in my dreams and drew
compositions during the day. When the sketches were ready, I started looking for how to technically realize my ideas. I
realized that what I was used to using: oil, acrylic, watercolor or gouache, it was not the same... I needed a warmer
material with which I could be in tactile contact. That’s how the love of fabric came. While working, I go through beautiful
pieces of fabric, collect my compositions from them, experiment. I like to dye them myself, using painting techniques,
flowing from one color to another. Each composition is filled with its own rhythm and emotional coloring. My art
education gives me the opportunity to be free to create. I can draw and do whatever I want with a form while still being
convincing. I’ve been searching for a technique that I feel comfortable using to realize my projects for a long time,
although of course I can add new techniques and ideas from time to time. Lately I often turn to female images, these
can be mythological, fantasy or real characters that have given me the desire to fantasize. I do not sew portraits, I
create my opinion about the character from the fabric, with color I convey my attitude to him. Conventionally, my work is
closest to the cubist idea, which is why I am often compared to Picasso

Sonia T erk (later known as Sonia Delaunay) was born on November 14, 1885, into a humble family with three children. Due to financial difficulties, she was sent to live with her maternal uncles, who legally adopted her. Her uncle Heinrich, a prestigious lawyer and art lover, owned a large collection of paintings, which greatly influenced Sonia as she grew up
surrounded by art in Saint Petersburg. She spent her holidays in various European countries, enriching her cultural and artistic perspective.

During her later studies, she discovered the art of Post-Impressionists like Van Gogh and Gauguin, who revealed to her the power of color. Shortly after, Matisse reinforced her desire to dedicate herself to color.
As an immigrant, to avoid leaving France, she entered into a marriage of convenience with the German art dealer Wilhelm Uhde, through whom she met artists like Picasso and
Braque. They introduced her to the other major artistic movement of the time: Cubism.

Among these artists, she met Robert Delaunay, with whom she fell in love. In 1910, she divorced Uhde and married Robert, forming a partnership where artistic exchange between them was constant.

After Robert’s death in 1941, Sonia Delaunay continued working and promoting abstract art.
Her designs on various objects made her famous and admired, becoming a symbol of true
modernity.

In 1964, she became the first woman honored with an exhibition at the Musée du Louvre.

Today, Sonia is considered one of the leading figures of Orphism.

I’m happy to introduce today Virginie Peyre @peyre.virginie

Everything that I create with my hands, comes from the heart and also out of gratitude.
The more time passes, the more I feel an infinite love for life. I’m lucky enough to have been able
to develop my creativity from my childhood.
My taste for working with fabrics comes from my mother who trained as a seamstress. Using old
clothes, she would cut and sew new ones for her four children. She was proud of making
something new out of something old. Like her, I create my artworks using small pieces of
retrieved, modest and worn fabrics. Through them, and my work, something remarkable is
created. It’s the very principle of patchwork.
Painting tends to constrain me, whereas working with fabrics allows me to go on an adventure.
Their colours, textures and patterns offer an infinite palette and a whole world of their own. I love
all colors and my favorite motifs are flowers, faces andthe shapes of Nature.
My knowledge «savoir-faire» (I’m a trained textile designer) allows me to express my inner being.
The very fact that I work by hand, gives me the time to shape my desires and let them evolve if I
want them to.
My needle, a simple,lightweight silent tool never breaks down or fails me. I marvel at all the
possibilities it can offer and at all the different paths it has led me down.
When I create something, I give back what I’ve reaped in my daily life by filling sketch books with
on the spot drawings and studies of all the beauty that surrounds me. My work is nourished by
life experiences and the fruit of my imagination. But, at the same time, I invent myself or
discover new aspects of who I am. Creating something is my personal way of being in the world.
This process has something of a perpetual birth.
